Crystal Mahon
Crystal is a career educator who has taught Drama and Literature to secondary students in schools, both locally and internationally, for close on 30 years. Whilst theatre has always been a passion, she spends most of her time off-stage as a Director and Production Manager. She currently works as an Associate Principal at Gungahlin College, where she just finished directing the musical All Shook Up with her Stage Performance class of Year 11 and 12 students.
Recent on-stage experience in the Canberra theatre scene includes the roles of Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet with Canberra Rep, and Mrs Eynsford-Hill in Pygmalion with Tempo theatre. Pre-pandemic, she was heavily involved in amateur theatre at the Moresby Arts Theatre in Papua New Guinea, where she worked and lived for several years, playing Cynthia Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, Justice Charlier in Rock of Ages and Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers.
Career highlights include winning the CAT Award for Best Director of a Youth Musical for Rock of Ages in 2018 and the Best Youth Musical Ovations Award for Roald Dahl’s Matilda in 2022. She is grateful for the opportunity to work with Free-Rain Theatre for the first time as Ivy in August: Osage County and feels privileged to share the stage with this ensemble of magnificently talented local performers.
